Meet the Shed’s Owner
Greg Hodowansky – Owner, Recording Engineer and Percussion Instructor @ The Shed
Musical Background
With more than 40 years’ experience in Live and Studio Audio Engineering within the Entertainment Industry as well as focusing on Percussion/drum and drum education, I hold a Master’s Degree in Music, graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music ( Performance and Theory, Toronto, Ontario), graduated with honors from The Ontario College of Percussion and graduated Deans List from The Harris Institute for recording Arts and Production Management Program. As a multi-instrumentalist, I also play piano, guitar, woodwind, brass, compose music for film, TV, and podcasts from my professional home studio.
Teaching Philosophy
My lessons uniquely combine structured progress with creative exploration, ensuring each student not only master’s technique but also develops their own musical voice. I am committed to providing a friendly, supportive environment where steady growth occurs without pressure. Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, focusing on clear communication, creativity, and flexibility. I believe in nurturing confidence, accountability, and enjoyment, reinforcing student well-being at every step. One is never to “Young at Heart” to experience and learn how to play the drums.
Drumming just happens to sharpen the fine motor skills in your fingers, arms and legs as well as being a decent cardio exercise.
Lesson Structure
Lessons feature demonstrations, warm-ups, and drills, covering rhythm theory, music fundamentals, ear training, and performance preparation. Students learn stick techniques, timing, rhythm reading, coordination, breaking down songs, confident performance, and effective practice routines. I prioritize structured improvement by breaking down complex rhythms into manageable steps, and use innovative methods such as structured practice plans, visualization, groove-building drills, song-based learning, and guided improvisation. Progress is tracked and constructive feedback is provided to encourage steady advancement and creative growth.
Performance Experience
Beyond teaching, my extensive performance history includes playing with International global touring acts, Mirvish Corp. Broadway Productions and the ongoing involvement in diverse musical projects as well as compose original music for various media including Television, Movies and Production Houses. With this background as a multi-instrumentalist and composer, I enrich my lessons, offering students a broad perspective on rhythm, musical styles, and performance. I am currently engaged in multiple musical ventures, continually expanding my experience and sharing fresh insights with students and other musicians alike.
